Djokovic cruises, Nadal suffers shock exit at US Open
Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic both won their third round matches at the 2016 US Open. “Midnight delight. And hopefully there will be another delight in a couple of days, but it’s going to be obviously tough against Jo, who has been playing some great tennis”.

A well-rested Djokovic, who has enjoyed the benefit of two withdrawals and nearly five days’ rest, will be a different proposition for Edmund, who will consult with Andy Murray ahead of facing the 12-times major champion.
The Serb will face the in-form Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in the last eight, and will hope to beat the Frenchman to continue his likely collision course with Andy Murray in the final.
“Considering I had some struggles before the tournament, I feel great at this moment physically; mentally as well I’m motivated”.
Edmund was beaten by Isner in straight sets at the French Open this year but the Briton has come into form at Flushing Meadows, knocking out world number 15 Richard Gasquet in round one.
“You can see it or you can write the way that you want”.
Using a phone during a professional tennis match is not allowed, and chair umpire Alison Hughes noticed what was going on.
“It’s given me a lot more belief in my game”, Edmund said. Kerber could overtake Williams for the No. 1 ranking depending on their U.S. Open results.
The world number one looked to impose himself early on as he fired two down the line forehand winners past the Brit in the third game to move to 0-30. I actually like playing night sessions very much.
“I’ll learn from what happened in Miami”.
He beat Kyle Edmund of Great Britain 6-2, 6-1, 6-4 early on Monday.
Edmund, playing in a grand slam fourth round for the first time, barely got a look-in during the first two sets against the world No 1 and defending champion, who booked a last-eight meeting with ninth-seeded Frenchman Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, a 6-3, 6-3, 6-7, 6-2 victor over American Jack Sock.
Pouille will now face his compatriot Monfils for a spot in the semifinals, after he cruised through against Baghdatis with a 6-3, 6-2, 6-3 victory.
The 29-year-old remains on course for his 13 Grand Slam title and his third this year.
Pouille came out firing, pushing Nadal back with an array of deep groundstrokes and angled shots.
In one of the biggest surprises of the tournament so far, Nadal was unable to reach the quarterfinals at a grand slam once again – his last appearance coming at the 2015 French Open.
Ryan Harrison shocked No. 5 seed Milos Raonic in the second round; 17-year-old CiCi Bellis was back and winning two years after her breakout, and Jared Donaldson, just 19, had quality wins over David Goffin and Viktor Troicki before bowing out.

A mammoth challenge awaits Edmund in round four in the shape of world number one Djokovic. Third-seeded Stan Wawrinka, sixth-seeded Kei Nishikori of Japan, eighth-seeded Austrian Dominic Thiem and former champion Juan Martin del Potro will also battle for quarterfinal berths.
