Youzhny called for his trainer when trailing 3-1 and took a medical timeout at the end of the next game, continuing after having his left upper leg strapped.

Second seed German Angelique Kerber demolished her 17-year-old opponent CiCi Bellis 6-1 6-1 to reach the fourth round of the US Open.

The fourth-seeded Spaniard defeated Andreas Seppi 6-0, 7-5, 6-1 to advance to the third round, where he will take on Andrey Kuznetsov of Russian Federation.

Sock completely dominated his own service games, not facing a single break point in the contest.

Edmund, meanwhile, continued on his way, adding a win over Isner to his first-round victory over Richard Gasquet.

Asked on court if this was the best comeback of her career, Keys said: “For sure”.

Two days after collapsing in the NY heat en route to a three-set second-round victory, Britain’s Johanna Konta reached the US Open round of 16 with no fuss.

Tsurenko, the world 99, made the last 16 at a Slam for the first time by beating 12th seed Dominika Cibulkova of Slovakia 3-6, 6-3, 6-4. And he handled the Croatian’s big serve just fine, breaking the No. 7-seeded Cilic on four occasions.

In Rio, the Serb, who has won six of the past nine Grand Slam events, was stunned by Juan Martin del Potro in the opening round.

Sock had defeated Cilic from two sets down in America’s losing effort in the quarter-finals of the Davis Cup.

A title at the US Open, however, would make Djokovic only the second player in the Open era – joining?

The Dane s 6-3, 6-1 victory featured eight breaks of serve.

Anastasija Sevastova has followed up her upset of Garbine Muguruza by equaling her best performance at a Grand Slam. Both rallied from two sets down in the first round: Isner spent 3 hours, 27 minutes on court on Monday, while Darcis needed 4 hours, 11 minutes.

NEW YORK (AP) – Thanks to injuries to two opponents, Novak Djokovic did not exactly need to put in much work to reach the U.S. Open’s fourth round for the 10th consecutive year.

Djokovic, the top player in the world, struggled in his first match against Jerzy Janowicz of Poland but won in four sets, 6-3, 5-7, 6-2, 6-1.

Jack Sock sent 2014 champion Marin Cilic crashing out in spectacular style, blowing the Croatian off the court. Keys, a 21-year-old American, has among the most powerful serves and forehands in women’s tennis today.
