In the women’s side, Vinci, an unseeded Italian veteran playing in her first Grand Slam semifinal, defeated Williams, 2-6, 6-4, 6-4, at the United States Open on Friday. Federer accomplished the feat in 2004, 2006 and 2007, each time winning the Australian Open, Wimbledon and the U.S. Open.

Despite his incredible achievements over the past year, Novak Djokovic is still struggling to win over tennis fans across the globe. Djokovic also won three Slams in 2011.
Djokavic triumphed over some of the best singles players in the world to win the tournament, including ninth-ranked Marin Čilić and 18th-ranked Feliciano López in the semifinals and quarterfinals, respectively. He’s always going to be out there making you play your best if you want to win.
Federer, victor of the record 17 grand slam singles titles, was trying for his first since 2012.

US Open champion Novak Djokovic is honoured to be considered among the greats of the game and has warned his rivals he has many years left in him yet.
The men’s final Sunday was played in the evening after a long rain delay.
Following another point in that game, Djokovic nodded as he smiled toward the stands. But, to be considered the all-time best, Djokovic has his work cut out for him.
The sportsman had been watching the actor in fantasy film 300 the night before his match final against Roger Federer and claimed he found it “inspiring”. This was only the third time that Federer had been broken throughout the championship.
The 17-time Grand Slam victor tied the game a set apiece in a 62-minute second set, converting one of nine break point openings and never faced any on his own serves. He won the next two and had three break points, but Djokovic deflected each and held.
The final was in many ways an echo of the Wimbledon final and, once again, Roger Federer did have his chances.
Djokovic saved 19 of the 23 break points he faced, while winning six of Federer’s service games.
Federer, too, has had a marvellous year and one can only admire the way he is playing at the age of 34.

When a reporter asked how Gerard Butler became part of his entourage, Djokovic revealed the two are actually close friends. Federer insisted he would be back to try again in 2016. When Federer could get to the net, he couldn’t handle enough volleys to make a difference.
