Djokovic Not 100% Fit For US Open!

Murray beat Rosol during a bad-tempered encounter at the Munich Open previous year when the Scot shouted to his opponent: “No one likes you on the tour, everyone hates you”.

The US Open gets under way tonight.

“With Roger Federer missing out on Paris and NY and Rafael Nadal also grappling with fitness issues, the “Big Four” of tennis seems to have been reduced to the “Big Two” with Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray really developing a great rivalry”.

“I love the question (of the number one ranking)”. Friday was the first time either had discussed the health problems that stymied them in Rio de Janeiro and forced them to withdraw from the hard-court warmup at Cincinnati.

Instead, she got so distracted by the “ifs”, “whats” and “maybes” that she was defeated in straight sets and was eliminated.

Angelique Kerber is not putting too much pressure on herself to gain the no.1 spot in the rankings. “I definitely feel like when I lose, I don’t feel as good about myself”.

Williams has played only three matches since winning a record-tying 22nd Grand Slam singles title at Wimbledon in July, and is struggling with a sore shoulder. Although the Dunblane player won both contests, he did lose the opening set in each of these best-of-three meetings.

“There are a couple of players that if they do really well and whatever the situations are, they can reach No. 1”.

Last major of the year, today-Sept.

Jelena Jankovic (18 weeks in total in 2008 and 2009), Dinara Safina (26 weeks in two 2009 spells) and Caroline Wozniacki (two periods stretching over 2010/11 and 2011/12 totalled 67 weeks).

Twelve months ago Murray suffered his earliest defeat at a Grand Slam for six years when he lost to Kevin Anderson in the fourth round.

He almost made the final of this year’s Australian Open, before losing to Andy Murray in five sets.

Who wins the two titles in NY?

The second seed was involved in a feisty affair with Rosol at last year’s Munich Open, during which Murray told his opponent that “nobody liked him” on the tour.

Kerber and Muguruza have both outgunned the 34-year-old in major finals this year but the German insists the landscape has not changed yet.

At the Rio Olympics, she lost in the third round of the singles tournament. She won the first 3 Grand Slams of the season and a success at the US Open was nothing more than a smooth follow up.

“That’s why this week, it was very important to rest, take time to let your body recover and is just important to do the training you do away from the court”.

Djokovic was given a tougher-looking draw than his biggest threat Murray, and plays former Wimbledon semi-finalist Jerzy Jano-wicz in the first round.
