Debutant Krygios upset third seed and two time finalist Tomas Berdych 6-6, 6-4 to book berth in the semi-final.
“I was really surprised with the performance I gave out there today to come out there and beat a quality player and in tough conditions”, Kyrgios said, reports the ATP’s official website.
“It’s gotten worse in the last two days, unfortunately”.
“I seem to have some kind of viral infection”.
“It was a bit of a struggle, to be honest”.
Novak Djokovic of Serbia waves after withdrawing from his match against Feliciano Lopez of Spain at the ATP Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships Thursday.
Australian Nick Kyrgios was at his quirkiest against seventh seed Martin Klizan, putting all of his distractions on display in a 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 win to mark his Dubai debut. Kyrgios won his first title in Marseille last weekend.
Incredibly, Kyrgios urged Berdych to challenge the call, believing the serve to be good.
With a hold of serve in the bag, the Australian then took a medical time out to manipulate his troubling back, and promptly broke Wawrinka again in an eight-minute tussle from, 4-4. “That’s why I was focused on myself”. I wasn’t expecting anything. This was Dokovic’s first tournament since winning his sixth title in Melbourne at the end of January, and it had a dramatic end for the champion.
“It’s very sad when one of the greatest players ever has to retire from a match like that”, he was quoted as saying by the BBC.
“For sure if you look from the beginning of the week I was not playing great at all”.
“I was trying to find a way”.
“I’m sorry that I’m talking now with my sunglasses at 10:00 p.m. It’s not a usual sight, but that’s what it is and I am just hoping it’s going to get better”.
“He started to play a little bit more solid, a little bit more aggressive from his forehand side, his stronger one”. It’s the first time that I have had such a problem with the eye.
Wawrinka’s comments came in the wake of the Kyrgios’ insulting remark on the French’s girlfriend during their Montreal Masters match previous year in August.
“The tension was there because it’s a semi-final and I don’t want to lose”.

“People will talk about the match, a lot about the match tomorrow, a lot more than normally because of what’s happened a year ago”, Wawrinka said, reports The National.
