Wildcard Zhang, China’s number one but ranked 219th in the world, could not contend with the power and precision of Djokovic’s ground strokes as he was broken immediately and soon yielded the first set.

Novak Djokovic emphatically ended home hopes at the China Open today as he beat Zhang Ze to reach the quarter-finals with his 26th straight win at the tournament.

Without much time to rest, Djokovic appeared on doubles’ court with his younger brother Djordje Djokovic, but the brother duo lost to last year’s Wimbledon champions Vasek Pospisil and Jack Sock 6-4, 6-1.

The Serbian will take on American John Isner in the quarter-finals following his narrow 4-6 7-6(5) 6-4 victory over Australian John Millman.

“I’m making adjustments in my serves recently, actually I kept my serves only once when I led by 5-3, my serve games are the main problem”, said Wang.

Wozniacki continued her momentum in the second set, allowing not single game to the host player, cruising to a dominating 6-0 sweep to get through the second round in 79 minutes.

“We both played really well”.

This was the first time that Djokovic, the top seed, confronted a Chinese player.

Third seed Rafael Nadal booked his place in the last eight on Wednesday.
