The result also marked the 19th straight Masters series title won by one of the tour’s top four: Djokovic, Andy Murray, Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal.

The world No. 1 clinched his 30th ATP World Tour Masters 1000 title when he beat Kei Nishikori 6-3 7-5 in the Toronto final on Sunday. Djokovic has won 11 of his last 12 final appearances.

Two breaks was plenty for Nishikori, as he would hold his last two games easily to book his place in his second Masters 1000 final of the year, taking the deciding set 6-1 to wrap up the surprising comeback victory in just under an hour and a half.

However, Djokovic had to dig deep during a spirited back and forth in the final stages of the hardcourt match before eventually overcoming Nishikori, who is ranked sixth in the world. The Serb evaluated his play as his best of the week. Even against above-average competition, Djokovic is going to have to throw in some sloppy play in order for his opponent to have a real shot at an upset.

I have come across many times people asking about the crowns (so called Caps).

Despite the Japanese star claiming three consecutive games in the second set to lead 4-3, Djokovic steadied the ship and the pair battled it out to 5-5. “So I hope I can get revenge this time”.

“After that set he started… playing a little bit slow and down”, said Nishikori, now sixth in the ATP world rankings.

TORONTO-Novak Djokovic is back to his winning ways and heads to the Rio Olympics to capture a tennis prize that still eludes him. Before the final, Nishikori had won 86 per cent of the Rogers Cup games in which he had served.

“I raised the level of my game as the tournament progressed and today was the best performance of the tournament at the right time so hopefully I can carry this win and this confidence into Rio as well”. “I had to change something, I was not getting numerous free points [as I did today]”. The percentages he was able to find on his first serve allowed him to express himself more on that particular shot.

Midway through the second set of their match, Wawrinka botched a sure-fire high backhand from at the net as Nishikori stood still on his side of the court, having conceded the point.

“You don’t feel good on the court when you miss that kind of shot”.

Monfils was better on the big points in this match-up of two elite servers, staving off all four break points he faced and converting two of his four chances to win 6-4, 6-4.
