DNAs of Geeta, Bihar family do not match: MEA
The DNA of an Indian woman, who was stranded in Pakistan for a decade before returning home last month, does not match a family claiming to be hers. “The Mahato family came forward to claim her as a family member, and after seeing whose photos Geeta thought they might be her parents”, Vikas Swarup, spokesperson of the external affairs ministry, said in his weekly media briefing here. “But the test result was negative”, Swarup said.

He said several other families too have come forward to claim her. “We are sending the photographs of these families to Geeta”. Geeta is now staying at a rehabilitation centre for deaf and mute people in Indore.
Mr Swarup also said that External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj will travel to Indore on November 23 to meet Geeta and enquire about her well-being.
She arrived back in New Delhi to great publicity in October after she apparently identified her family in photos.

Her plight emerged following a Bollywood film Bajrangi Bhaijaan, which told the story of a Pakistani girl who can not speak and is trapped in India. He added that the report, prepared by AIIMS, has been sent to Mahato family. “Geeta is going through the pictures but she has not said that they may be her parents”, said Mr Swarup.
