DNC 2016: Recap of Day 3 of the Democratic National Convention

Chelsea Clinton, who spent eight years of her childhood in the White House when Bill Clinton was president, will introduce her mother on Thursday evening.

The Democratic nominee’s choice for vice president, Senator Tim Kaine of Virginia, who delivered his acceptance speech to the convention in Philadelphia, will be the one slogging through endless speeches and state tours by plane and bus, day in and day out, until November.

Within minutes, she went on the attack at Republican nominee Donald Trump, saying he wants Americans to “fear the future”.

“There’s only one person in this race who will be there, who’s always been there for you, and that’s Hillary Rodham Clinton’s life story”, Biden said. “She doesn’t run to Twitter to give people ugly nicknames”. “I’m sorry Bill, I’m just telling the truth”. The vice president sought to convince average Americans that Clinton understands their concerns.

After Mr Obama’s speech, Mrs Clinton joined him on stage where they hugged, held hands and waved to the crowd. America is already strong. She knows what’s at stake in the decisions our government makes for the working family, the senior citizen, the small business owner, the soldier, and the veteran.

The same can’t be said today; Obama and his fellow speakers had to walk precisely that line Wednesday night, and they did it deftly. He hopes their silence will signal that the Democratic Party has not unified around Clinton-contrary to media reports. The appearance of him encouraging Russian Federation to meddle in the presidential campaign enraged Democrats and Republicans, even as he dismissed suggestions from Obama and other Democrats that Moscow already was intervening on his behalf.

“It wasn’t dark, it was optimistic” Trump told Fox News’ “On The Record with Greta van Susteren”. Coverage of the DNC in the 10 p.m. hour on broadcast and cable has been higher-rated than the same convention in 2012 and higher-rated than the RNC proceedings last week.

Priscilla Chavez, a delegate from New Mexico, said she believes Obama can transfer his popularity to Clinton. “She keeps on fighting for the people who need her most”.

Obama praised Clinton to the heavens Wednesday, of course, and in the same kind of positive terms he would’ve used if Clinton were running against Jeb Bush or Ted Cruz. “That’s a bunch of malarkey”, Biden said. “That’s a bunch of malarkey”.

After a quarter-century just behind the men in charge, Clinton on Thursday gets her turn alone with the American public for what could be most important speech of her career. Some supporters of Clinton’s primary rival, Bernie Sanders, continued to voice their displeasure with the pick, but there was nothing they could do to take the nomination away from Clinton. He also argued that it was Clinton who was endangering national security with her policies in the Middle East and North Africa. “We have to look out for each other and lift each other up”, she said. This was because her family – in contrast to the Trump clan – doesn’t erect buildings marked with their name. “It is the effort to divide the American people”.

“This is the moment, this is the opportunity for our future”, said retired Marine Gen. John R. Allen, a former commander in Afghanistan.

According to the Associated Press, Democratic Senate Candidate Jim Gray said he still supports Clinton, while at the same time he distanced himself from her infamous comment at an eastern Kentucky event.
