DNC Chair Feels the Bern, Dumped From Convention

Chairperson of the Democratic National Committee and South Florida Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz was greeted by boos and jeers on Monday morning at the Florida Democratic Party Delegate Breakfast, just hours before she’ll convene the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia.

In her statement, Schultz said that she remains committed to seeing Clinton elected president.

Even before these hacked emails surfaced online, Schultz had already made herself the target of Sanders supporters’ ire, having always been perceived as an ardent Hillary fan determined to sabotage the Vermont senator’s long-shot chance at securing the Democratic presidential nomination.

That was before she was heckled during a speech to her home state delegation today by people angry that the emails apparently showed that some in the DNC favored Hillary Clinton over Bernie Sanders.

Early Sunday, Sanders reiterated his call for her resignation.

Wasserman Schultz, a member of Congress from Florida who reportedly had been removed from a speaking role after the e-mail leak, said she would address the delegates during the convention.

Wasserman Schultz signaled her intent to resign amid the stir over the weekend caused by leaks from the DNC’s email server. Bernie Sanders is one of the major people calling for her resignation from the DNC, but he still stands by his endorsement of Clinton, which has struck a sore nerve with his supporters.

Sanders supporters demonstrated at Philadelphia City Hall, ready again to fight for the nomination after the WikiLeaks revelation that party staffers secretly helped Clinton.

Wasserman Schultz in a few emails specifically criticizes Weaver, calling him a “damn liar” in one.

“So I think when you put it all together, it’s a disturbing picture”, he said.

The Democrat familiar with the decision said it was done in hopes of preventing chaos on the convention floor among Sanders supporters. “I wouldn’t, No. 1, for her own good, because it’s going to get messy when she gets up there”.
