Trump had made his comment after government officials suggested that Russians hacked the DNC’s email server, leading to a leak of its emails showing favoritism to Clinton, the Democratic presidential nominee, during the primary season. This election saw significantly fewer debates, and the debates that did take place aired at off-hours.
Although she announced her resignation in the wake of the scandal, Wasserman Schultz still intends to open and close this week’s Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia and address delegates. He ripped the DNC and Wasserman Schultz in interviews on the Sunday talk shows, demanding her resignation.
The shouters, many holding signs that simply said “E-MAILS, ‘ were countered by Wasserman Schultz supporters who cheered the party chairwoman and U.S. House member from Broward County”. The crowd would not be appeased, and the coordinator pushed Wasserman Schultz aside to pound the gavel and demand order from the room.
WikiLeaks has exposed upward of 20,000 emails from Debbie Wasserman Schultz, the chairman of the DNC, and her top staffers.
In a May 13 email Wasserman Schultz criticizes Sanders’ campaign manager Jeff Weaver, writing, “He is an A _ _”, tagging the message with her initials, “DWS”. Sanders is a relative newcomer to the Democratic party and the DNC, having long served as an independent in the Senate.
“I think she should resign, period”, he said.
“I sat in that chair in 2004 trying to navigate all the different candidates we had”, he said.
Sanders said he would have preferred Clinton to have chosen the more liberal MA senator, Elizabeth Warren, as her running mate but said he wouldn’t hesitate to support the Clinton-Kaine ticket.
“I am grateful to Debbie for getting the Democratic Party to this year’s historic convention in Philadelphia, and I know that this week’s events will be a success thanks to her hard work and leadership”, Clinton said.

“I think that Debbie Wasserman Schultz did the right thing”, Weaver said. “I couldn’t believe that when I read it”. It remains to be seen whether the culture at the DNC will change as Sanders hopes it does.
