DNC rules meeting agrees to a compromise on superdelegates

“I think having it in Camden and entitling it “Camden Rising” and telling a little of the story of Camden is very helpful for the city, its resurgence and what everyone is doing to try to make it a better place”. A group of progressive organizations say they have enough support for a floor vote on an amendment to get rid of superdelegates, The Associated Press reported.

The documents, which were released on Friday, appeared to indicate how hard fought Clinton’s primary battle with Sanders was.

It also threatened to overshadow Hillary Clinton’s first joint rally Saturday with her newly-named running mate, Tim Kaine, two days before the Democratic Party Convention kicks off in Philadelphia to officially crown the White House nominees. However, party leaders say no delegate will be left behind because of a lack of funding. “His strengths will only manifest if they focus on turning out the black and brown vote”.

Regarding super delegates, which was the most contentious issue of the day, the commission will make specific recommendations on how to change the rules so some super delegates, such as members of Congress and governors, maintain their status, but others be required to cast their votes at the convention “in proportion to the vote received for each candidate in their state”.

But no Sanders supporter could find an upside in the DNC emails.

One is a suggestion to discredit Sanders after a controversial convention in Nevada in May, which led to his supporters accusing the DNC of fraud and misconduct. “Specifically, DWS [DNC Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz] had to call Bernie directly in order to get the campaign to do things because they’d either ignored or forgotten to something critical”, DNC Press Secretary Mark Paustenbach wrote to DNC Communications Director Luis Miranda.

“The state party there has a lot of problems”.

Robert Becker, who ran Sanders’s campaign in Iowa, said he was personally offended by one of the leaked emails. “He had skated on saying he has a Jewish heritage”, the message said.

The compromise came after a lengthy meeting in which Sanders supporters grew increasingly frustrated as their efforts on superdelegates were voted down.

In absentia, Trump was trying to prove that. At the same time, Democrats in the rules committee – on both sides – were arguing that failing to support their positions would give Trump the presidency.

The emails include communication with journalists and discussions about the news media and incentives provided to party donors who’ll be attending next week’s Democratic convention, as well as details about their backgrounds, including, in some cases, criminal histories. “That’s going to help Donald Trump”.
