“Michael Busk, Pence’s Indianapolis-based physician, wrote in a detailed letter released by the campaign that the in governor was “in excellent general and cardiovascular health”.
It also noted that Pence has a “very good and strong heart”, and that he regularly exercises by cycling, walking and climbing stairs.
The letter about Pence, the 57-year-old governor of IN, was dated Thursday and came after Donald Trump, Hillary Clinton and her running mate, Tim Kaine, also provided some details of their medical history. Trump discussed these facts in an appearance with the controversial TV doctor Mehmet Oz.
The letter also notes that Pence weighs 208 pounds, neither smokes nor consumes alcohol and the only medication he takes is Claritin, an antihistamine used to fight seasonal allergies.
“You maintain a healthy lifestyle and prevent disease through your lifestyle and by practicing adult preventative health care guidelines”, wrote Busk, who has served as Pence’s physician since 2013.
Busk said that Pence had basil cell carcinomas skin cancer removed from his face in 2002 and 2010.
“Overall, you are in excellent general and cardiovascular health”, Busk wrote to his patient.
The candidates moved to show their physical fitness to run for office after Clinton fell ill on Sunday at an event in New York City, prompting her campaign to disclose that she had been diagnosed with non-contagious, bacterial pneumonia.
After a few days of rest, Clinton returned to the campaign trail Thursday.
The Clinton campaign later acknowledged that the 68-year-old former US secretary of state had been diagnosed with non-contagious, bacterial pneumonia.
“Your general physical and mental health examination was normal”, Busk said.
