Doctor prescribed Prince medication before death

After In Touch revealed that the untimely death of music legend Prince is under federal investigation, TMZ reports Dr. Michael Schulenberg – who is allegedly being investigated for writing prescriptions for the singer – has abruptly left his medical practice. The doctor had seen Prince on April 20 and April 7, the day the star cut a show in Atlanta, the warrant said.

The warrant does not specify whether the search was for prescription pain medications, which are the leading theory as to the cause of death. Lesa Bader, a spokeswoman for the health care system, said personnel records are private and she couldn’t comment on why Schulenberg no longer works at their Minnetonka clinic.

The warrant was executed at the North Memorial Medical Center, which employed Dr. Schulenberg.

Over the course of the two visits, Schulenberg reportedly ran tests and provided medication for an unknown ailment.

Another half-sibling, Lorna Nelson, also alleged drug use by Prince, but was not involved in getting drugs for him, Padden said.

Investigators interviewed Schulenberg and searched a suburban Minneapolis hospital where he worked, according to the warrant.

The official told The Associated Press on Wednesday that the search for Internet suppliers involves examining computer drives from Prince’s Minnesota home, where he was found dead on April 21.

The musician’s representatives called Dr. Howard Kornfeld, a national authority on opioid addiction treatment, on April 20 and asked him to go to Prince’s home because they were “dealing with a grave medical emergency” but it was too late.

She says there are several drugs that doctors can prescribe to help treat opioid addiction. McMillan told the news agency, adding: “Everybody who knows Prince knows he wasn’t walking around drugged up”.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office and the DEA announced last week they were joining forces with local investigators, led by the sheriff’s office in Carver County, to investigate Prince’s death.

A Carver County Sheriff’s Office vehicle and about a dozen unmarked vehicles entered the Paisley Park gates on Tuesday afternoon.
