Expect more announcements concerning the film in the coming months.

K9 was developed in the late ’70’s era of Doctor Who.

If you are an avid Doctor Who fan of a certain age you will probably remember that at one point the Time Lord travelled time and space with a robotic dog companion called K9, with K9 making his first appearance in the popular series way back in 1977.

A new look high tech K9 for today’s cinema is being prepared for film stardom. John Leeson will voice K9 in the movie, which will be released in 2017.

Rather than being the property of the BBC, the rights to the robot still belong to Baker – who also co-wrote the much-loved Wallace and Gromit “Claymation” films, along with Nick Park. Apparently the Time Lords hero Omega, also one of the founders of Time Lords and Galifrey, will feature in the movie.

The Time Lord’s beloved robot dog, K-9, turns 40 years old in 2017, and in honor of that occasion, character creator Bob Baker will bring the “canine” to the big screen. The character returned in 2006’s “Class Reunion”, along with Elizabeth Sladen as human companion Sarah Jane. K9 later had a show on his own, a 30- minute comedy- adventure children’s show produced by studios from United Kingdom and Australia.
