Doctor Who’s K9 robot dog gets its own movie
There’s always talk of more spin-offs or cinematic releases for Doctor Who, but here’s one we weren’t expecting – K9 is getting his own movie.

According to the Facebook page, casting and other announcements will be made in the coming months. It also promises to introduce a new-look “high tech” incarnation of the famous robo-mutt.
Targeting a release date in 2017, K9 Timequake is a feature-length film starring the robot dog as it travels through multiple dimensions in space. Bob went on to co-write with Nick Park the Oscar and Bafta winning Wallace & Gromit series of film shorts as well as the feature film Curse of the Were-Rabbit.
Like K9, Omega was created by Baker (for the 1972-73 Doctor Who serial The Three Doctors) and it’s likely that the writer may also own a few of the rights to the character – but it’ll be interesting to see whether or not the forthcoming spin-off will be allowed to overlap in any way with the current Doctor Who universe.
The film is to be a United Kingdom co-production with exteriors filmed overseas and studio work planned for the UK. Meant to be a one-off character by creators Baker and Dave Martin, the robot dog stuck around until 1981.
Unfortunately though there is no word on whether the Doctor will make an appearance in K9 TimeQuake, but who knows, perhaps a Doctor Who cameo can be arranged further down the line.
