Doctors Without Borders hospital bombing death toll hits 30

The official said the worldwide Committee of the Red Cross and the Czech Republic’s People in Need – two other earlier targets of alleged violations – would still be allowed to operate. The Kunduz clinic was bombed by US forces on October. 3.

The strike occurred as the Taliban grabbed control of Kunduz, a city of 300,000 people – the first time since the U.S.-led invasion in 2001 that they had seized a major Afghan city.

It said efforts were being made to establish the identities of seven other bodies found in the ruins of the hospital and which had now been buried.

The death toll is still rising from an airstrike on a Doctors Without Borders center in Afghanistan.

The Pentagon, North Atlantic Treaty Organisation and the Afghan government are conducting separate investigations into one of the worst US attacks resulting in civilian casualties since the war began 14 years ago.

In a statement, Gen. John Campbell, the commander of USA and coalition forces in Afganistan, said he had also appointed an Army general and two Brigadier Generals outside the chain of command to conduct an “independent and unbiased” investigation into the attack. A week after the attack, the Defense Department announced it would help rebuild the hospital and offer condolence payments to victims and their families.

MSF has up until now coordinated all its activities with the authorities and is willing to continue this collaboration for the sake of the health of thousands of vulnerable citizens of DPR, the organization said Friday.

CNN reported that the U.S.is investigating the hospital bombing.

“The destruction of MSF’s 94-bed trauma centre will have a huge impact on access to surgical care for hundreds of thousands of people”, the MSF statement said.
