Documents on United Kingdom citizenship of Rahul Gandhi ‘original’, says Swamy
The Parliamentary Ethics Committee led by Bharatiya Janata Party leader LK Advani has issued a notice to Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi in connection with his reported British citizenship.

Arun Ram Mehgwal, BJP MP and member of the ethics committee, has claimed that it is a serious issue and post Gandhi’s response the committee will decide the future course of actions, reported ANI. Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut said people like Rahul Gandhi who do not have a clear citizenship have no right to talk about nationalism.
Mr. Swamy had also approached the Speaker in this regard.
He will make a statement in the house either today or tomorrow (Monday or Tuesday). On the receipt of a complaint, LokSabha speaker Sumitra Mahajan followed the normal procedure and directed the issue to the Ethics Committee which is headed by BJP veteran leader L K Advani.
Subramanian Swamy has written a letter to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, asking him to have Rahul Gandhi’s Indian citizenship revoked, as well as his status as a Member of Parliament. “The name of the company is BACKOPS Limited and MP Gandhi is the Director and Secretary”, the letter stated.
Surjewala said the government was trying to malign the image of the Congress and counselled that the government should instead focus on bringing back to the country the likes of liquor baron Vijay Mallya.
Party leader Digvijaya Singh said that the complaint did not deserve attention. The congress has called this off as just another of Swamy’s blame-games, and has denied receiving any such notice from the ethics committee.

The Supreme Court had in November previous year rejected a plea seeking a CBI inquiry into the allegations against Gandhi and questioned the “authenticity of the document” attached with the PIL and the manner in which the papers were procured.
