Dodge County deputy kills man after standoff

According to the Police Chief and Sheriff, the man was waiving a weapon and reportedly stated that he wanted to commit “suicide by cop”. Contact was made with the suspect, and he indicated that he wished to end his life by suicide by cop. The subject began waving around his firearm during the incident.

“We previously received information that the suspect had meant to commit suicide by cop”, Schmidt said. Due to nature of the incident and the potential risky situation we requested assistance from the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office.

There were efforts to end the situation peacefully and safely, Schmidt said.

The suspect was killed during the exchange. The Deputy was not struck and no one else was injured. The deputy, who has nine years on the job, returned fire.

Updates from the Sheriff’s Office are expected to be released on Monday. The Deputy has been put on administrative level as the investigation of the incident continues.

The Wisconsin Division of Criminal Investigation is leading the investigation of an officer involved shooting death in Beaver Dam Friday night. This is done so that we can obtain a thorough and accurate investigation of the facts by an outside agency as required by state law.
