Dodgers Close To Acquiring 5 Players In 3-Team Deal With Marlins, Braves
A three-team, 13-player trade involving the Los Angeles Dodgers, Miami Marlins and Atlanta Braves is finally complete, according to FOX Sports’ Ken Rosenthal.

Johnson, 32, is enjoying a bounce-back year with the Braves and took over as Atlanta’s closer following a season-ending ankle injury suffered by Jason Grilli just prior to the All-Star break.
The first-place Dodgers bolstered their pitching staff, acquiring Latos and Alex Wood, Jim Johnson and Luis Avilan from the Atlanta in the trade. We’re having a number of conversations on a number of different fronts.
Manager Fredi Gonzalez scouted Olivera in the Dominican Republic over the winter and also had a chance to speak with him.
-Miami acquired minor league right-handers Kevin Guzman, Jeff Brigham and Victor Araujo from the Dodgers, none of whom has pitched above Class A. The Los Angeles Dodgers will get both Morse and Latos. Thus, they apparently felt they could part with Wood, who is just 24 years old and under team control through 2019. The Braves also get the No. 35 overall pick in the 2015 Draft from the Marlins, and the Dodgers will pick up part of the Braves’ tab on Bronson Arroyo, which they absorbed from the Diamondbacks in a trade in late June. Now when they return to Dodger Stadium Friday, there are going to be some sad faces around the clubhouse. After being fairly dominant in that role in the Midwest League in 2014, he’s been more hittable this year, though he continues to miss bats (9.9 K/9) with his sinking 90-94 miles per hour fastball and low-80s slider. Outfielder Chris Heisey and right-handers Brandon Beachy and Chin-Hui Tsao also were designated for assignment.
Nationals: RHP Stephen Strasburg (left oblique strain) gave up four hits and three earned runs in four innings Wednesday night when Triple-A Syracuse lost to Buffalo 8-5. Gone is Olivera, a 30-year-old coveted by the Braves, who couldn’t compete with the Dodgers’ six-year, $62.5 million offer he signed in May.
1B/OF Mike Morse and RHP Mat Latos were set to be traded from the Marlins to the Dodgers for prospects, but the deal was on hold until the players pass physical exams.
John Hart, Atlanta’s president of baseball operations, said the Braves think Olivera can be a Travis Fryman or Scott Rolen type offensively – a. 270 or.
Morse is a good power hitter, but strikes out a lot and doesn’t really walk at a high rate.
Whether he will be a mainstay on the Dodgers’ roster going forward is not entirely definitive – they could include him in a deal in lieu of their favored prospects Corey Seager and Julio Urias. “We like the player, we like the bat, we like the makeup”. We like the makeup. Olivera, 30, has been limited by hamstring problems this season and apparently has a balky elbow, but is batting.348/.392/.493 in 19 games at three minor-league levels. He can play first.
“Alberto (Callaspo), we’ll probably use the same we have in the past – match up and try to find the right guys for him”, Mattingly said.

“We went into July continuing to focus on adding as much pitching as we could”.
