By taking on the contracts of pitcher Bronson Arroyo from the Braves and first baseman Michael Morse from the Marlins the Dodgers were able to get cash considerations from both teams as well.

Miami’s involvement was clearly a salary dump, considering they received the least enticing return of the three teams involved.
In 19 minor league games this season, Olivera is hitting.
In total, the Dodgers will be taking on about $43.5 million in player contracts.
A second-round pick out of Georgia in 2012, Wood made his major-league debut the following year and became a full-time member of the Braves’ starting rotation in 2014. Zimmerman led off the second with a homer to left off Haren (7-7), who gave up four hits in six innings and lowered his ERA to 3.42. The Dodgers will send the Braves reliever Paco Rodriguez, prospect Zachary Bird, and infielder Hector Olivera.
The Marlins also included their competitive balance draft pick in the deal.
Marlins president of baseball operations Mike Hill said the team would continue to consider any potential trade offers until Friday’s deadline, but expressed his regret for the circumstances that kept Latos and Morse in suspense while the trade was delayed. And make no mistake – the Dodgers were after Price because he could help them win the World Series this season. The Dodgers scouted his past eight starts, Friedman said, and they thought his stuff had returned to the level it was at when he was at times a dominant starter for the San Diego Padres. “This lined up with something that we felt like addressed some current needs for us”. The former Marlins pitcher isn’t having his best season with a 4.48 ERA but has had his ERA in the 3.15 area throughout his seven-year career. The Dodgers may not be done. The Braves tried to sign Olivera last winter.
“We really like the player, ” Hart told reporters on a conference call Thursday. Also, the Dodgers will be responsible for the remaining $16 million due as part of his $28 million signing bonus. He has rumored to have elbow issues and is now rehabbing from a hamstring injury.
That wasn’t enough to dissuade Hart. “But we’re not there and we have to keep working until we get there”. If the most optimistic thing you can say about a pitcher is that a change of scenery might be beneficial, there’s not a whole lot to like – other than going to a team in playoff contention.
Latos and Morse, however, didn’t leave the dugout as happens often when trades are finalized. Outfielder Chris Heisey and right-handers Brandon Beachy and Chin-Hui Tsao also were designated for assignment.
That plan has been scuttled.
