Manager Dave Roberts announced that the club has not ruled out back surgery as a possibility for Kershaw, but they are optimistic that he will still be able to pitch this season.

“I think at that point in time it let us know we had to be a little more on the cautious side”, Roberts said Tuesday.
Roberts said the team is “hopeful” Kershaw would be back this season.
The Dodgers shut down Kershaw indefinitely due to back pain on Tuesday. Kershaw has declined to speak much specifically about his back injury, and outside of updates from Roberts there have been scant details revealed.
The first-year skipper isn’t ruling out back surgery for the Dodgers’ ace. There was no original timetable when Kershaw first got injured and now that he has hit a setback, that timetable must be even longer than originally believed.
Kershaw is 11-2 with an NL-leading 1.79 ERA. He was the heavy favorite to win the NL Cy Young award. Roberts indicated that the calendar made the return Woods to the Dodgers starting rotations not likely, but hopes Wood, who is 25, could pitch out of his bullpen if he is healthy.

Mark Teixeira homered in his return from his latest injury, and NY moved two games above.
The 28-year-old Kershaw has been on the disabled list with a mild disk herniation, having not pitched since June 26 in Pittsburgh.

A right-handed pitcher ranked the second-best prospect in the Kansas City Royals’ minor-league system, Zimmer is out for the remainder of the 2016 season because he needs surgery to correct thoracic outlet syndrome. Just, as said, don’t panic or assume that’s what’s going down.
