DeGrom, the Game 1 victor over Kershaw, will pitch on an extra day of rest, while Game 2 victor Greinke will be going on regular rest.

Dodger fans can remember them all, including the Game 4 previous year that ended their season in St. Louis.

“Do you have to explain that one?”

Dodgers: Slumping C Yasmani Grandal (left shoulder) was available off the bench after he “kind of pinched something” in his last at-bat Monday night, manager Don Mattingly said. Their pitching has actually been quite good in every game, but the decision to start Steven Matz in Game 4 and not Jacob deGrom on short rest was ultimately the deciding factor.

“He would have played last night if it would have came up at the right spot for us”, said Mattingly. With that being said, it should be a fun evening of baseball tonight and we’d love it if you joined us here to discuss it! “We’re in the National League – the pitcher has got to hit, so you’re not looking at somebody going three or four innings like you would maybe in the American League”. While ERA isn’t everything, Matz has a regular season 2.27 ERA, compared to Kershaw’s 4.05 ERA post-season.

“Definitely happy to be going back home”, Kershaw said.

The play cost the Mets their lead in the game and in the series.

Conforto is only starting against right-handed pitching. He struck out four and walked two on 85 pitches.

“The adrenaline takes over”. Kershaw was in no mood to refer to any sort of a jinx or stigma, and Mattingly pointed out that Kershaw “has pitched pretty good in those starts”.

Sherman also added that Murphy’s defensive abilities could make him an AL team signing, wherein he could get a few time at as the designated hitter.

Kershaw did the rest from there, at one point striking out six of seven batters as he threw 94 pitches, 64 of them for strikes.

Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Clayton Kershaw (22) adjusts his cap… He was erased on a fielder’s choice, but Howie Kendrick then singled to put runners on first and third.

So, basically, deGrom has owned the Dodgers this season. “Believe me, this is no slap at Alex Wood”. “We wanted to win it tonight”. I mean, this kid is tremendous. “I know exactly what he can do”.

This time, he allowed Murphy’s one-out home run in the fourth inning, but otherwise allowed just three base runners, one of them on an infield single in the seventh.

The Mets knew they likely would have to win two games started by Cy Young award winners Clayton Kershaw and Zack Greinke in order to win take the National League division series. His statistics and accolades speaks for themselves: in eight seasons, Kershaw has combined for a 114-56 record (a. 671 winning percentage), to go along with a 1,746:466 strikeout-to-walk ratio and a 2.43 earned run average. “They like us a little better there”. “Getting the ball to Zack on our field gives us a chance”.
