Dodgers, Rays, To Agree On Chris Archer Trade

Texas Rangers trade rumors: Joey Gallo is the Tampa Bay Rays desired return – or at least primary piece of a return – in a deal for Jake Odorizzi or Matt Moore, while the Rangers won’t part with Gallo unless they are getting Chris Archer, According to Evan Grant. Those numbers are well down from his All-Star campaign of 2015, while his hit, walk and home run per nine averages have also increased. He is the ninth Rays batter to record a five-hit game and the first since Mike Mahtook on September 18, 2015, against Baltimore.

Archer is in the middle of his worst season in the majors, as he has a 4.60 ERA and a 1.395 WHIP through 21 starts. They had the tying run at second with one out in the ninth but failed to drive him in either as they lost their fourth game in a row.

As of today, the Dodgers have Kenta Maeda, Scott Kazmir, Bud Norris, Brandon McCarthy and Julio Urias in their rotation.

Norris (6-9) allowed no runs on just two hits with two walks and six strikeouts in 6 and 1/3 scoreless innings as he earned his third victory in a Dodger uniform since he was traded to LA on June 30.

The Dodgers have some firepower with their bats. Corey Seager (.306, 65 Rs, 17 HRs, 45 RBIs, 1 SB) had another good game Sunday, going 2 for 5 with one run.

The Rays are 18-41 in their last 59 games overall, and 3-7 in their last 10 game ones of a series. Entering Tuesday’s action, the Dodgers are 56-44, 2.5 games behind the first-place Giants and holding the first of two Wild Card slots.

The Dodgers are 10-1 in their last 11 Tuesday games, and 4-1 in their last five games versus a right-handed starter. ESPN’s Jayson Stark reported earlier in July that a rival executive sees a 70% chance that Archer is traded to the Dodgers prior to the deadline. Manager Kevin Cash said he left him out of the lineup because Kiermaier hadn’t played in eight weeks due to a broken left hand before appearing in five consecutive games upon being reinstated from the disabled list Friday.
