Hernandez is 10-for-16 (.625) with four doubles and three home runs against Bumgarner in his career, including two home runs and a double on April 15 at Dodger Stadium.
In his three starts against the Dodgers this season, Bumgarner has averaged 5 1/3 innings pitched and given up 4.3 runs.
When Brandon Belt’s double forged another tie in the fifth, the Dodgers once again prevented Bumgarner from throwing a shutdown inning. The Giants bullpen, which has struggled of late, allowed four runs.
Bumgarner (12-8) labored like a giant throughout the game, allowing runs in four of the five innings he worked. He struck out only two batters but he didn’t walk anyone and relied on the Giants’ steady defense to record outs against a weak NY lineup.
In Miami, Yordano Ventura escaped two threats while pitching six innings, and Kansas City extended its winning streak to nine games. His shoulder has been bothering him since May.
The club purchased the contract of Gorkys Hernandez from Triple-A Sacramento.

Dodgers: LHP Rich Hill (9-3, 2.25) is scheduled to make his first start for Los Angeles on Wednesday after being acquired from Oakland in the deal that also gave them Josh Reddick on August 1. Rich Hill will be making his first start for the Dodgers after putting up sensational numbers in 14 starts for the Oakland A’s this season.
