Dollar Tree pulls the plug on Deals concept
Dollar General is the latest retailer to announce its paring down the home office ranks with plans to eliminate 255 positions in a corporate restructuring plan.

Dollar Tree will rebrand its 222 Deals stores next year as it seeks to focus on its primary banners, Dollar Tree and Family Dollar. In that time frame, the chain expanded to its current store number, which stretches across 19 states.
Dollar stores have taken market share from bigger rivals by offering less-expensive, everyday products and by scattering more small-footprint stores in locations that make it easy for shoppers to run errands quickly.
Of the 222 locations, 217 will be converted to Dollar Tree and the remaining five will be changed to Family Dollar.
As of July 31, Dollar General operated more than 12,198 stores in 43 states. The key advantage with the service is the multi-price points for each of the products.

Dollar Tree Chief Executive Officer Bob Sasser said now that the Family Dollar deal is complete, Deals stores would operate better under one of the combined company’s primary banners, Dollar Tree, which sells everything for $1 or less, or Family Dollar, which sells a variety of items and national brands for $10 and under. Beyond 2016, the company expects to see more conversions. Dollar Tree completed its acquisition of the Matthews retail giant in July. Also, as the integration of the Family Dollar outlets into the Dollar Tree business improves, the business is expected to grow and provide long-term value for shareholders.
