Trump met Wednesday with Indiana Gov. Mike Pence and Newt Gingrich. Trump told The Washington Post earlier in the week that he plans to announce his choice by Friday, but aides said news of his selection could emerge earlier.
Mr Trump had originally planned to fly back from IN with Mr Pence following a rally on Tuesday night, but his plane was grounded by mechanical issues, so his children flew to join them IN IN, a person familiar with his movements said.
Pence, Christie and Gingrich were said to be the final contenders for vice presidential candidate on the Republican ticket less than a week before the GOP meets in Cleveland for the formal nomination.
The GenForward poll also found just 19pc of young people have a favourable opinion of Mr Trump compared with the three-quarters of young adults who hold a dim view of the NY billionaire.
Mr Trump seemed to be trying to decide between Mr Pence and Mr Gingrich, the source added.
Christie, a former presidential candidate who became one of the first “establishment Republicans” to endorse Trump, has been advising the NY businessman on the running mate selection, but is also considered a contender himself.
Hours later, Newt Gingrich, another finalist, was seen with Trump’s entourage at a downtown Indianapolis hotel.
“Honestly, the homosexual lobby is too strong; he’s not gonna pick Pence because he made them angry, but it’s nice that he’s considering him”, Zirkle said.
On Wednesday in Fort Wayne, Pence had a different kind of meeting, shaking hands with another man named Mike Pence, a TRF food vendor.
When it comes to trade, Trump’s foothold with Rust Belt voters, Sessions was one of the first lawmakers to speak out against the Trade Promotion Authority and the Trans-Pacific Partnership, though the four-term senator has voted for other trade deals in the past.
“You can’t marry all the girls” my mother once told me.
Donald Trump’s vice presidential search turned into a head-spinning melodrama Wednesday as candidates vying for the spot hopped on planes and phones to perform frenzied, last-minute try-outs.
Christie has been a regular on the campaign trail since endorsing Trump in late February.
Christie, 53, a tough-talking politician described as a political bruiser, already campaigned with Trump in Virginia on Monday.
As CNN notes, the President’s running mate is considered an indication of the tone a presidential campaign and potential presidency will take. “He’s got some awesome, awesome people”, Eric Trump told Fox News on Wednesday night.
