The movie stars Jennifer Nettles as Parton’s mom Avie Lee Parton and Ricky Schroder as her dad, Robert Lee Parton.

Parton’s mother told her the story of Joseph and his coat of many colors “just to make me proud because she knew it was made of rags”.

The film is set in the Tennessee Great Smoky Mountains in 1955.

“[It’s] a show about people who made me who and what I am”, she continues.

While Parton says she’s almost finished with a Broadway musical based on her life, she’ll continue to turn songs in films. She will perform current radio single “I Am Invincible”.

“I’ve had so many people tell me through the years that that song itself has had a healing effect on them, whether it was about their race, their nationality, or whether they’re overweight or whether they were crippled, whatever”.

At the movie’s premiere in LA, Parton said she thought audiences would appreciate the personal message.
