On The Cranberries’ Linger, the choice for the first dance at many weddings, lead singer Dolores O’Riordan sings: “But I’m in so deep, you know I’m such a fool for you, you got me wrapped around your finger”.
Fans flocked online to purchase music by The Cranberries following the unexpected death on Monday of lead singer Dolores O’Riordan at age 46 in.
While The Cranberries had confirmed O’Riordan’s passing, as of early Monday afternoon, no further information was available as to what caused the 46-year-old singer’s passing.
Speaking to NME, creator Lisa McGee hailed O’Riordan’s “mesmerising” voice and explained how her talent had influenced a generation of Irish writers.
Celebrities and Irish leaders have taken to social media to pay tribute to Dolores O’Riordan, the lead singer of rock group.
“This song is our cry against man’s inhumanity to man, inhumanity to child”, she said. James Walton, priest at Ballybricken and Bohermore parish, told Britain’s Press Association her family “is very devastated and upset”.
The rock “n” roll of her decade, the 1990s, tended toward monolithic sounds, sounds without subtlety, that became insufferable as they passed from year to year.
“The news of her passing is devastating and my thoughts are with Don, her ex-husband, her children, and her mother”, Waite said.
Bad Wolves are set to release their debut album this year on Eleven Seven Music, whose CEO Allen Kovac used to manage the Cranberries. It’s really sad to hear this news especially considering how young she was.
According to NME, Amazon users started buying the band’s album including the final one with O’Riordan titled “Something Else”, which saw 913,350 percent boost in sales.
She was the pride and joy of her home town of Limerick, Ireland. The group, from Limerick, has sold more than 40 million albums worldwide. I heard it over the radio. Taoiseach (Irish Prime Minister) Leo Varadkar called her “Limerick’s greatest ever rock star”, and that her band “captured all of the angst that came with your teenage years”.

However in January 2009, the band reunited and returned to the music scene in honour of O’Riordan being awarded as an Honorary Patron of University Philosophical Society (Trinity College, Dublin).
