Whitehurst benefited from a Colts defense that took advantage of Miami’s consistent offensive missteps to hold on for the victory.

Whitehurst was limping after being sacked on third down with three minutes left, and the Colts had no quarterbacks left to replace him.
The 40-year-old veteran took a big hit by Dolphins defensive tackle Jordan Phillips in the second quarter of Sunday’s matchup in Miami and was later ruled out for the rest of the game. Tannehill was sacked six times during the Dolphins’ loss, which dropped the team to 5-10. After the safety, Brent Grimes picked off Matt Hasselbeck in Colts territory in the first quarter, but that was wiped out by a holding flag against Grimes.

The Colts added another touchdown on their next possession when Gore, the former University of Miami standout, rumbled 37 yards for a touchdown and a 8-0 lead after the missed extra point.
