Dolphins closing in on Gase for head coaching job

When John Fox was hired as the Chicago Bears head coach before the 2015 season, it was quite a treat when he was able to recruit Adam Gase over as his offensive coordinator.

Gase is the only candidate to be called back for a second interview by the Dolphins. Gase was the only person the Dolphins met with to get a second interview. The Bears finished 6-10, but notched big wins over the Kansas City Chiefs and the Green Bay Packers and were in the playoff hunt until a three-game December swoon ended that.

The 37-year-old, who becomes the youngest head coach in the league, vastly improved the Bears’ rushing attack in his single season at Soldier Field, which came after an impressive spell in a similar role with the Denver Broncos. Gase received his start in Detroit, where he served as a scouting assistant, before becoming being promoted to the quarterbacks coach.

The Miami Dolphins had fired coach Joe Philbin following an early-season loss in London to the Buffalo Bills.

Some outside Halas Hall have wondered whether Cutler would regress without Gase.

Regardless of who the Eagles’ next coach is, Gase was Philadelphia’s first choice and the coaching search could widely be considered a failure now that the Dolphins were able to nab him before the Eagles could.

Despite being in demand, Gase said he was attracted to the Dolphins because of Ross after getting positive reviews from others about the owner.

The Cleveland Browns have interviewed Gase, the offensive coordinator of the Chicago Bears.

Either way, Gase seems destined to become a head coach at some point.

He helped create the Broncos’ offensive juggernaut that scored an NFL-record 606 points in 2013.

Notice how Manning hammered home Gase’s work ethic? He is regarded by some as a rising star in the coaching ranks and it was clear that he was going to land a head coaching job this offseason, whether it was in Miami or elsewhere.

But Jay Cutler enjoyed the best year of his career under Gase, finishing with a career-best 92.3 passer rating and cutting his interceptions down from an NFL-high 18 last year to just 11 this year.
