Dolphins have interviews lined up with Teryl Austin, Adam Gase
With the Dolphins setting up camp in New York and stacking interviews like a job fair, should they make room for former New York Giants coach Tom Coughlin? I think Shanahan will improve the team a bit, but will fall short of making the playoffs each year. “Well, I have a couple of names for you of quarterbacks that he’s coached and the lack of success that he’s had”. They went 6-10 this season, finishing last in the AFC East and falling well short of the team’s expectations. Among those looking on were the Dolphins, whose coach, Joe Philbin, and general manager, Jeff Ireland, had taken Tannehill to dinner the night before.

The state of Florida has played a prominent role in Shanahan’s career, starting with the 1980-83 seasons when he was the Gators’ offensive coordinator.
Shanahan, who won two Super Bowls as head coach of the Broncos, also has an interest in the San Francisco 49ers’ open head coaching job. He won the January 1999 Super Bowl in Miami Gardens, defeating Atlanta 34-19. He finished just 8-12 in Oakland. He also coached the Raiders from 1988 to 1989. The 49ers job recently became available when the team fired Jim Tomsula after just one season, and Shanahan is reportedly interested in that vacancy as well. He interviewed with the Jets previous year but ended up following Rex Ryan from the Jets to the Bills.
Miami is also scheduled to interview Detroit Lions defensive coordinator Teryl Austin on Tuesday and will interview Chicago Bears offense coordinator Adam Gase, Jacksonville Jaguars assistant coach Doug Marrone and the Dolphins’ own interim coach, Dan Campbell, later this week, per ESPN.
As head coach, Shanahan guided his teams to the playoffs eight times, seven times with the Broncos and in 2012 with Washington. The fiery former tight ends coach led the Dolphins to a 20-10 victory over the New England Patriots in the regular season finale.
The truth is, however, the Dolphins are far closer to being the worst team in the league than the best.
