Don’t care if United have to pay record fee for Pogba

Old Trafford’s move for Pogba has drawn criticism from former United legend, Paul Scholes who says Pogba simply isn’t worth the money.

“Okay, he has gone on to great things and there was a massive improvement in him”.

United made Juventus an offer of £85 million ($111 million) for the midfielder last week, but Juventus reportedly wants at least £100 million before it is willing to let him go.

“We are not going to be in the hands of one club that may sell and maybe doesn’t sell”. “We established four important target profiles -not faces, profiles-and we got three of them at the very early stage and now we have 25 percent of our market to conclude until August 31 and that player [Pogba] is not the only one”.

“We have one space for a midfield player”, he said.

When asked by Sky Sports News HQ if he would have a problem spending that kind of sum on one player, Mourinho said United are in a comfortable financial position but would not leave themselves “in the hands of one [selling] club”. He played in the first team may be once or twice, but from my understanding he was asking for too much money for someone who did not play first team football.

“I think with Ibrahimovic it is, he was playing in a team of PSG and they created a lot of chances”.

Under the Scot, they won 13 Premier League titles, five FA Cups and two Champions League titles in the space of 26 years.

After signing Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Eric Bailly and Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Mourinho wants to complete his summer spending with £100m-rated Pogba before the Community Shield in a fortnight’s time. Real Madrid, for so long the front runners, appeared to have dropped out of the race and Manchester United seemed to have a clear run at his signature.

Mourinho reiterated after the 4-1 defeat to Borussia Dortmund in Shanghai United would sign a central midfielder to bring “balance” to their squad. It is also a big club, a club with economical power to fight for their best players, to try and keep their best players.

Not less attractive, I think it’s probably a mentality thing.
