Don’t sing my name, Jurgen Klopp tells Liverpool FC fans

Roberto Firmino scored twice and Sadio Mane and Adam Lallana also found the net in an eye-catching attacking display from Liverpool as they beat Leicester City 4-1 at home on Saturday.

Vardy continued to threaten for Leicester, but a late Liverpool break resulted in Mane beating the onrushing Schmeichel to the ball 40 yards from his goal before squaring for Firmino to side-foot into the unguarded goal.

“I have to say, because I don’t know how else I can say this, please don’t sing my name before the game is decided”. “We were strong physically, flexible, quick and creative”.

Mane got on the scoresheet when he made it 2-0 midway through the first half.

“At half-time I told the boys “This is our challenge”. It would be really nice if we could stop this”.

“This is the challenge for the whole season”. We have to show it and we will see how often we can show it, but why should we think about our absolute standard or negative things? We had to change in a very decisive position yesterday. It’s a little bit like celebrating a penalty before you’ve scored.

There were actually four other goals in the game, but it’s fair to say there’s one goal everyone is talking about from Liverpool’s game against Leicester. “When the Kop started singing it, [Leicester] were alone in front of Simon [Mignolet]”.

“I love these players”. It’s nice, but it’s not necessary.

The Italian suggested that the loss of these key players could have had an impact on his side’s performance.

“It was a good performance in a wonderful place”. That is an easy deal.

“We knew we had to do the job today and that is what we did”, Klopp added. Claudio Ranieri, Leicester’s manager, was critical of his players’ poise on a historic day at Anfield.

“Liverpool played better than us and they deserved to win”.

Klopp’s side had seven shots on target in the first 45, with the visitors managing just one, which led to the goal that had been so charitably served to them.
