Don’t Speak: Beyoncé Doesn’t Utter A Single Word In Vogue Cover Story
As the NYT points out, this is highly unusual for Vogue; a review they conducted found five years’ worth of cover articles indicates that she’s the ONLY celebrity cover star not to agree to some form of interview.

There’s a catch to Beyoncé’s prestigious Vogue cover. Instead, Vogue will run an essay on Bey’s “star quality” from a writer who didn’t even talk to anyone associated with her.
A slew of high-profile celebrities have granted interviews in exchange for Vogue’s coveted September issue cover spot in the past: Reese Witherspoon, Jennifer Lawrence, Scarlett Johansson, Taylor Swift, Kim Kardashian.
For the year’s biggest issue of the fashion magazine, Beyoncé appears in an editorial spread photographed by Mario Testino and in accompanying videos on Vogue.com, but she does not utter a single word for the cover story written by Margo Jefferson.
“She has to be studying how effective her interviews have been so far”, said Jefferson. The publication also determined that Beyonce stopped granting face-to-face interviews altogether sometime between 2013 and 2014, with the exception of taped interviews for TV. “A member of her team told a reporter in May that despite numerous appearances, she had not answered a direct question in more than a year”, the Times says. “It’s a perfectly reasonable decision”.
