Don’t worry, there’s already a Deadpool sequel in the works

THR initially broke the news, stating that Fox issued a greenlight for more Deadpool insanity. Not only are the early reviews for Tim Miller’s Deadpool positive, but the studio is estimated to bank at least $65-70 million during its opening weekend. Creator Rob Liefeld and co-writer Rhett Reese took to Twitter to announce that the second post-credits scene for the film will only be shown during its release date. Not only is it easily the best film of the year so far, it’s also one of the best comic book adaptation/superhero movies to date.

“I think [Syrin and Cable] are characters who are near and dear to Deadpool fan’s hearts and characters we would like to explore down the line if we’re so fortunate to have sequels”, Reese told HeyUGuys. 20th Century Fox has already greenlit a Deadpool sequel. Trust me folks, you’ve never seen anything like it. Deadpool 2: The Sequel is a joke that’s been done before, but they could lean in to that idea and call it something like Deadpool 5: Deadpool’s Revenge. With shared universes all the rage right now and Marvel ruling theaters with their own characters, expanding the footprint of the X-Men, which Fox controls the rights to, is a no-brainer. Deadpool is a sarcastic and self-deprecating anti-hero who isn’t afraid to be offensive, pretty much the opposite of the happy-go-lucky story that’s taking place over in the MCU. “And maybe X-Force. X-Force is my priority”.

It’s Tuesday, Feb. 9 at this time of writing, which means that the release of Deadpool is still three days away.

Whether Fox decides to pursue an X-Force movie or another solo Deadpool feature first remains to be seen, but Reynold’s prominence in getting the current film made could give him leverage in the decision over what happens next. Hulk would try and grab Deadpool and just smash him to bits, like he did with Loki in the first Avengers movie. “And then we’d say, ‘Uh, I wonder if James Cameron would be willing to help?’ And then he would read the script and he liked it and he would put in a good word”. It turns out that this is actually a two way street as those working with the Marvel properties at Fox miss out on the opportunities that would be available if the Avengers were accessible to them.
