Donald Cerrone vs. Robbie Lawler Signed For UFC 205

It appears we have one of the main card bouts for UFC 205 and the Octagon’s debut in NY, as Anthony Lima of Cleveland 92.3 confirmed with UFC president Dana White that Robbie Lawler-Donald Cerrone is a go.

UFC 205 will take place at Madison Square Garden on November 12 and aside from the Lawler-Cerrone bout, the only other fight now on the card is a welterweight bout between Thiago Alves and Al Iaquinta.

Lawler last competed at July 30’s UFC 201 from Atlanta, Georgia, where he surrendered his belt in brutal fashion at the hands of Tyron Woodley. It takes place November 12 at Madison Square Garden in New York City with a main card on pay-per-view following prelims on FS1 and UFC Fight Pass.

Cerrone (31-7, 1 NC) had his run to the lightweight champion ended by then-champion Rafael dos Anjos late previous year at UFC on FOX 17.

Cerrone, on the other hand, has been on a tear since moving up to welterweight. It’s also an opportunity for him to possibly win a title after losing twice to Rafael dos Anjos at 155. After last month’s TKO over Rick Story, Cerrone said he’d be more than happy to jump right back into action for the UFC’s much anticipated return to NY. And for once, it seems that the MMA Gods have smiled upon us.

One would think that the victor of this fight should be the next to receive a shot at the welterweight belt.

Lawler could realistically get back into welterweight title contention with a win, but there appears to be a line building for a shot at Woodley with former champ Georges St-Pierre, Nick Diaz and Stephen Thompson all expressing interest in a bout.
