“Throughout his career”, Bloomberg said in his convention speech.
“Donald Trump says he wants to run the country like he runs his business”, he said.
Bloomberg, who followed the tenure of Trump backer Rudy Giuliani as mayor, praised Clinton’s leadership in the wake of 9/11.
It seems that the decision to give the Republican-turned-independent mayor of NY a prime-time speaking slot to forcefully advocate for Hillary Clinton is already reaping dividends.
Michael Bloomberg speaks on the third evening session of the Democratic National Convention at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, July 27, 2016.
Trump said he was particularly surprised, given he had worked on projects with the Bloomberg administration, including the public Trump Golf Links at Ferry Point in The Bronx. Before 2001, Bloomberg was a Democrat.
“There are times when I disagree with Hillary”.
Bloomberg, a previous Democrat who served as mayor as a Republican before turning independent, called Trump “risky, reckless and radical”.
► A coded allusion to the lawsuits again Trump University: “I’m a New Yorker, and New Yorkers know a con when we see one”. His endorsement came with a caveat.
But Bloomberg appeared to be appealing directly to millions of independents and frustrated Republicans watching from home on television. “No candidate is”, Bloomberg said. “No candidate is. But she is the right choice – and the responsible choice – in this election”, the former Republican mayor stressed.
A Reuters review of Trump’s federal filings showed he had cash and other liquid investments worth between $60 million and $180 million in May, far short of the amount he would need to self-fund his campaign.
Trump, the man and his candidacy, is a violation of Bloomberg’s life and political philosophy. I couldn’t agree more. I’ve built a business.
“I’ve been by Mike’s side for 19 years, and I’ve never met Donald Trump”, Bloomberg advisor Kevin Sheekey said. Some estimates suggest Trump’s wealth is basically the value of his inheritance plus inflation.
Bloomberg holds the voters accountable for making a decision for their children and future generations: “your votes matter now”, states the former Mayor.
The billionaire declares that there is only one “sane and competent” candidate in the elections and urges independents to go with Hillary Clinton.
