Donald Trump: Abedin/Weiner Split Exposes Possible National Security Risk In Clinton Campaign

Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton aide Huma Abedin says she is separating from husband Anthony Weiner after another sexting revelation involving the former congressman from NY.

But support for her was swift and firm on Monday, with friends saying she should be allowed to make her personal family decisions in private.

In this photo taken January 5, 2011, then-New York Rep. Anthony Weiner and his wife, Huma Abedin, an aide to then-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, are pictured after a ceremonial swearing in of the 112th Congress on Capitol Hill in Washington. “It is possible that our country and its security have been greatly compromised by this”.

Abedin began working for the former first lady as a White House intern and became a trusted aide and adviser as Clinton won a seat in the Senate representing NY in 2000, ran for president in 2008 and served as President Barack Obama’s secretary of state.

“After long painful consideration and work on my marriage, I have made the decision to separate from my husband”, Abedin said in a statement Monday morning. “Anthony and I remain devoted to doing what’s best for our son, who is the light of our life”.

Abedin’s marriage has also come under fire from Clinton’s Republican opponent Donald Trump, who immediately seized on the aide’s marital split to accuse Clinton of “bad judgment”.

Trump also repeated his attempts to tie Weiner to Clinton’s emails through Abedin.

Abedin has been under scrutiny during the probe into Clinton’s use of a private email server while she was secretary of state. Abedin remained in the Hamptons with her son and was not expected to join Clinton there to attend campaign fund-raisers on Monday. She was her intern in the 1990s during the presidency of Bill Clinton and became a top aide while Hillary Clinton served as a senator from NY.

In recent months, he has taken care of the couple’s toddler son. Abedin herself described it as “living in a nightmare” in the documentary “Weiner” released earlier this year. Last week, the group Judicial Watch released several previously undisclosed exchanges turned over by Abedin that included a 2009 message she received from Band – a foundation official at the time – seeking a meeting with Hillary Clinton for the crown prince of Bahrain.

‘I don’t think I could do it if I didn’t have the support system I have, if Anthony wasn’t willing to be, essentially, a full-time dad, ‘ Ms Abedin told the magazine’s August issue.

Two years later, Abedin was all in for her husband’s mayoral bid, raising money, appearing on the campaign trail and participating in interviews in which the couple talked about rebuilding their trust and marriage.

Abedin’s behind-the-scenes role has often drawn unwanted attention. Weiner has not commented further.

Abedin began working for the former first lady as a White House intern and became a trusted aide as Clinton won a seat in the Senate representing NY in 2000, ran for president in 2008 and served as President Barack Obama’s secretary of state.

Two of these allies said they were told that some kind of statement would be coming and that they were urged to respect Abedin’s privacy.
