Susan Page highlights the final night of the Republican National Convention, including Ivanka Trump introducing her father and Donald Trump formally accepting the presidential nomination.

Cruz’s speech was another stumble at a convention marked by several missteps, including a speech by Trump’s wife, Melania, that included lines similar to those in a 2008 Democratic convention speech by President Barack Obama’s wife, Michelle. What happened, you know somebody got booed the hell out of a place by thousands and thousands of people.

President Trump, his 34-year-old daughter said, “will focus on making quality childcare affordable and accessible for all”. I feel so badly. And you know, he’ll come and endorse over the next little while. “I can understand his reluctance to endorse”.

Dismissing Cruz’s criticisms, Trump suggested he stay off the campaign trail: “Ted, stay home, relax – enjoy yourself”.

In prepared remarks sent to the media before he took to the stage, he paints a picture of a country falling apart and on the decline.

NY billionaire Donald Trump has officially accepted the Republican party presidential nomination, pledging to restore “law and order” to the United States and lead the party back to the White House. Which could have been viewed as a nasty thing in terms of what he said.

“But that’s OK”, Trump added.

“I like Ted, he’s fine”, Trump said. “Lock her up!” Trump first nodded, then shook his head. “That pledge was not a blanket commitment – that if you go and slander and attack Heidi, that I’m going to nonetheless come like a servile puppy dog and say, “Thank you very much for maligning my wife and maligning my father”.

“Senator Cruz being upset with the fact that Mr. Trump attacked his wife by saying that she was unattractive and then attacking his father by accusing him to be part of the Kennedy assassination – with no apology – that to me says a lot about a man”, he said.

Trump also revived the conspiracy theory raised by the National Enquirer, which published a photo of Cruz’s father and JFK assassin Lee Harvey Oswald.

New York Republican Chair Ed Cox said Trump “did exactly what he needed to do”.

“I think he needs to lay out some clear policy views, ” Kansas Governor Sam Brownback told the AP news agency. “Now, I am seeing him fight for his country”.
