Texas Senator Ted Cruz has won a decisive primary contest in Wisconsin, hurting front-runner Donald Trump’s chances of securing the Republican nomination before the party’s summer convention.

The Trump campaign, meanwhile, described Cruz as nothing more than a tool of anti-Trump organizations.
Trump’s campaign was defiant in the wake of his defeat in Wisconsin, offering a stinging rebuke to Cruz in a statement Tuesday night.
Former Mayor Rudy Giuliani told the New York Post Thursday he will vote for Trump, noting Cruz dissed the state for political points in the Iowa caucuses.
“The people of Wisconsin cast their votes and they had their say … of course we were disappointed, we are always disappointed when we don’t win”, Clovis said.
“He really doesn’t present any evidence and when we did our own research, we found there’s still no evidence that Ted Cruz is somehow connected to the distribution of this photo”, said Katie Sanders of Politifact.com. Mr Sanders’s sweeping win in virtually every county in Wisconsin except Milwaukee gives him greater incentive to carry on the fight against Mrs Clinton. But he still trails her in the pledged delegate count and has so far been unable to persuade superdelegates – the party officials who can back any candidate – to drop their allegiance to the former USA secretary of state. NY is the next primary state on April 19th, and where Hillary Clinton expects to begin closing in on the numbers needed for the nomination.
But Cruz kept his victory speech positive, highlighting his policy platforms and turning his attention toward a possible general election face-off with Clinton. “To all the voters and volunteers who poured your hearts into this campaign: Forward!” she wrote.
But Clinton still has what may be an insurmountable lead over Sanders in the number of delegates. There are 882 remaining delegates at stake in the Republican Party. Born-again and evangelical Christians, too, handed Cruz a victory: 55% voted Cruz and 33% voted Trump.

With Wisconsin results included, Mr Trump leads with 740 delegates to Cruz’s 508, while John Kasich has 143. But by losing Wisconsin, the real estate mogul has little room for error in upcoming contests.
