Former presidential candidate Ben Carson will endorse Donald Trump, the real estate mogul said Thursday during the GOP presidential debate hosted by CNN, handing Trump an important boost heading into next week’s “Super Tuesday 3”.
Carson, respected within the evangelical community, had briefly overtaken Trump in the polls earlier in the 2016 campaign. Also a factor in Carson’s decision was that he didn’t believe either Marco Rubio or John Kasich would have a path forward after Wednesday.
Trump said after Thursday’s debate that there had been too many debates. Trump’s nearest rival in the race is US Senator Ted Cruz of Texas.
On a question as to whether he would be interested in serving in a Trump administration, Carson said, “I’m interested in saving America”. I’m somebody that is a thinker. “I went and whatever happens happens – you have to be able to swing with the punches”, said Trump. Many Cuban-Americans, especially, view illegal immigration through the same lens as many of their white Republican peers who see immigration as an achievement, not as a right, that shouldn’t be taken for granted by those who come to America illegally.
Trump said he was most impressed with Carson’s views on education.
“There’s the one you see on stage and there’s the one who’s very cerebral, sits there and considers things very carefully”, said Carson, who joined Trump for the news conference.
“I have completely forgiven him”.
But, he said, “If it’s true, that’s a big get”.
Trump praised the police as “amazing”, saying they were “very restrained” in response to the incident.
“I certainly think it would fracture it”, Rubio said of a Trump nomination on CBS’s This Morning. I think there’s one Donald Trump”, he said.
Perhaps in an attempt to quell any such concerns, the front-runner closed his news conference with something not often heard in presidential politics: a defense of his supporters for getting physically aggressive with a protester at a recent rally.
Gone were the bluster, insults and red-faced ranting that have defined the Trump campaign so far.

We can make changes to our system and that change starts now with, ‘We the People, ‘” the 64-year-old wrote, underscoring the importance of not allowing disagreements to “divide us as a party or as a country.

“Clearly John Kasich has a better chance of winning OH than I do, and if a voter in OH concludes that voting for John Kasich gives us the best chance to stop Donald Trump there, I anticipate” that is what they will do, Rubio told reporters at an event in West Palm Beach, Florida.
