In an email from July of 2014, Powell tells mega Democratic donor Jeffrey Leeds that he would rather not vote for Hillary.
Powell was secretary of state under Republican President George W. Bush between 2001-2005, but in 2008 and 2012 he supported Obama’s candidacy for the White House.
Powell’s emails surfaced on the website DCLeaks.com, which has previously featured other hacks into prominent Republicans and Democrats. The New York Times wrote its headline in a balanced fashion, but because of its web design, only the portion of the headline that emphasized Powell’s comment that Trump “is a national disgrace” was visible on the paper’s home page.

Powell wrote most of the emails to his former aide now-journalist, Emily Miller. That’s what the 99 per cent believe. “When Trump couldn’t keep that up he said he also wanted to see if the certificate noted that he was a Muslim”, said Powell in one of his emails accusing the real estate mogul of being a birther in an NPR report.
“Basic fault falls on a courageous ambassador who [thought] Libyans now love me and I am ok in this very vulnerable place”, he allegedly wrote in the December 2015 email, referring to Ambassador J. Christopher Stevens, one of four Americans killed in the incident.
“All his lies and nonsense just pile up”, Powell wrote. “I’m not denying it”, Powell told BuzzFeed News about the emails.
The website DC Leaks, which may have ties to Russian intelligence, obtained the emails from Powell’s personal Gmail account and posted them on a password-protected site. His emails show that he grew increasingly frustrated with Clinton’s attempt to bring him into the scandal over her private email server.
In another email to Leeds dated August 18, 2015, Powell observed, “Everything HRC touches she kind of screws up with hubris”.
Powell added another complaint: “I told you about the gig I lost at a University because she so overcharged them they came under heat and couldn’t any [sic] fees for awhile”.
In another email, Powell referenced Trump’s birtherism. “I had to throw a mini tantrum at a Hamptons party to get their attention”.
He doesn’t like Hillary Clinton or Donald Trump.

Powell has claimed that his use of private email was much different than the setup Clinton had with a home-brewed server.
