“I think he’s going to go down”, Trump said. “But this guy Ted Cruz is the most dishonest person I’ve ever met in politics”.

Throughout his roughly 45-minute talk, including a question-and-answer session, Trump veered between favorite topics – including defending his plan to build a wall along the Mexican border – but repeatedly came back to his criticism of Cruz.

Trump defended his record, saying as president he would “terminate” ObamaCare and declaring that he’s the “strongest” defender of gun rights in the field.

Donald Trump appears on stage at the CNN Republican Presidential Debate in Simi Valley, California on September 16, 2015. Then, he says the Texas senator needs to “stop cheating”, most likely referencing the Iowa dustup over the Cruz campaign’s claim that GOP presidential hopeful Ben Carson was dropping out, which Cruz has since apologized for.

“Wow”, Trump said. “I tell you one thing I learned – these politicians are dishonest people”.

“Donald Trump if he were president would appoint liberals to the court we know this for a fact why Donald has been a liberal his entire adult life”, said Cruz.

“To be fair to Donald, he doesn’t know what he actually believes so he can’t really be expected to defend himself with reason and facts”, said Rick Tyler, Communications Director for the Cruz campaign.

But Cruz countered that he was born a citizen, and that two Republicans born outside of the country had already run for president, including John McCain. Since his campaign launch, Trump has touted he. like Cruz, would repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act. You meet sharp people, I don’t mean sharp like sharp, although they’re that also. “Isn’t that awful? Isn’t that bad”.

GOP debate may be ugliest yet as Cruz and Trump escalate attacks
