Donald Trump finishes Mike Pence’s sentences four times during 60 Minutes interview

“It has been very humbling, very overwhelming”, Pence said with a subtle smile as he described accepting Trump’s offer.

“I don’t care” that Pence voted in favor of going to war in Iraq when he was in Congress, Trump said. Fox News Channel added to the speculation Tuesday when it said it had suspended its contributor agreement with Gingrich “due to the intense media speculation” about his potential to join Trump’s ticket.

The Washington Post reported that Christie apparently made his feelings known Monday, pointing to a Twitter post made in response to a speech the governor gave to the MI delegation at the Republican National Convention in Cleveland.

Just this week, he tweeted this about the presumptive Democratic nominee: “Crooked Hillary Clinton is bought and paid for by Wall Street, lobbyists and special interests”.

“People who know me well know I’m a pretty basic guy – a Christian, a conservative and a Republican in that order”, Pence said. He then read a series of statistics highlighting the job growth in Indiana.

The best known person in the group is KellyAnne Conway, who is frequently seen as a television commentator on the cable news networks and who will serve as an adviser to Pence.

Pence tells Stahl that he came to New York City soon after 9/11 – part of a delegation of members of Congress – and will “never forget that day. He needs someone with him who has governed, who knows how to govern”.

Yet the announcement lacked much of the stagecraft typically associated with the public unveiling of a running mate, one of the most significant moments under a presidential campaign’s control.

In formally announcing his pick earlier Saturday, Trump said he was seeking party unity. Before it started, supporters listened to the Rolling Stones song “You Can’t Always Get What You Want”, a tune in regular rotation at Trump events.

Would Pence confront Trump on name-calling?

But its questionable that they have that level of support needed to do so.

Trump says in a statement posted on his Twitter and Facebook pages that “We grieve for the officers killed in Baton Rouge today”. He gave a full-throated call to fellow Republicans to back Trump. “Not only are they hundreds of people from New Jersey and thousands from around the country getting together to discuss the party and races in the nation and around the states, it’s fun to catch up with people who you only see every four years”.

Trump has struggled to bridge the gap between himself and the establishment and conservative wings of the party. The drastically different styles highlighted Pence’s ability to provide a complementing tone to the presidential ticket.

Christie told reporters Sunday night he didn’t lobby to become Trump’s vice president pick and was honored to be considered.

Trump tells “60 Minutes” that he and his running mate are ready to confront troubles in the world. He’s been critical of Trump’s proposed temporary ban on foreign Muslims entering the US, calling the idea “offensive and unconstitutional”.

And I am really relieved that Donald Trump picked a governor to be his running mate.
