Donald Trump Gets Skewered, Hillary Clinton Finds Support At TV’s Emmy Awards
Fellow HBO series “Veep” was named top comedy for the second straight year and that show’s star, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, won best comedy actress for the fifth straight time and a record-setting sixth time in her career. Ben Mendelsohn, who plays the black sheep Danny Rayburn, won Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series for his role.

Jeffrey Tambor, best comedy actor for “Transparent“, thanked Amazon Chief Executive Jeff Bezos, “who took my hand last night and said ‘call me Jeff Bezos, ‘” Tambor joked. That makes 38 total in the series’ history, passing “Frasier” as the most-honored prime-time series ever. Our good friend Laverne Cox was a presenter taking the stage to represent transgender actors & earlier this week RuPaul Charles won an Emmy for hosting RuPaul’s Drag Race. Of course, the one consistent theme of the night was poking fun at Donald Trump. Before that, she honed in on GOP contender Trump’s campaign. “Our show started out as a political satire but it now feels more like a sobering documentary”.
John Oliver, accepting the Emmy for best variety talk series for “Last Week With John Oliver”, chose to join in with, “I want to thank my wife – the hottest chain, or whatever”.
Maggie Smith was honored as best supporting actress in a drama series for the final season of “Downton Abbey”.
As Americans prepare to vote in November for a new president, “Veep” is also expected to win the coveted comedy series category, which is announced at the end of Sunday’s three-hour ceremony. As has become her custom, she didn’t attend the ceremony.
Host Jimmy Kimmel cracked, “I wouldn’t want to be those guys when Kanye finds out they beat Beyoncé”.
Then in his opening monologue, Kimmel took a swipe at TV king Mark Burnett, who produced The Apprentice: “Many have asked who is to blame for Donald Trump”. “So, this is nice, but this evening genuinely has a sense of loss”.
“The People v. O.J. Simpson”, which earned the second-highest number of nominations, converted five to trophies Sunday.
Vance and Brown definitely had some of the most memorable speeches of the night when accepting their awards.
“Obama out, Hillary in”, Vance said as he wrapped his victory speech.
“Mom, we did it!”, Anderson shouted, hoisting his trophy and dedicating the award to his late mother, Ora Zella Anderson.

Charlotte Moore, Director of BBC Content, said: “Huge congratulations to Sherlock and Susanne Bier, the director of The Night Manager, for their outstanding Emmy wins”. But Indian fans would be happy to know Bollywood Actress Priyanka Chopra, who leads in ABC’s Federal Bureau of Investigation thriller Quantico was there to give off an award with none other than Tom Hiddleston. No, her show attracts the smallest audience of any nominee’s in her category, so she probably was the beneficiary of a split.
