Donald Trump getting desperate about his convention ratings losses

At one point, Silverman looked straight at the boo-chorus and said, “You’re being ridiculous”.

“I want to bring before this convention the names of our parents: Eli Sanders, Dorothy Glassberg Sanders”.

Both Obama and Kaine gave acknowledgement to Bernie Sanders, Clinton’s bitter rival in the primaries, in a bid to rally millions of Sanders’ supporters behind Clinton in the November 8 general election.

“Our nation, it is just too great to put it in the hands of a slick-talking, empty-promising, self-promoting, one-man wrecking crew”, he told the convention. I do not wish for an expensive single-payer health-care system, a return of Glass-Steagall banking regulations or free tuition at state universities to funnel yet more money to the best-off educational demographic. Bernie Sanders’ wife, Jane O’Meara Sanders, served as president of Burlington College and told a reporter that, when she finally joined her husband in Washington, DC, “I fit in better with the congressmen than their spouses”.

With the cameras focused on Clinton, Sanders waved to the crowd and prompted a large section of supporters holding anti-Trans-Pacific Partnership signs to begin chanting “Bernie, Bernie”. “I have lived a long, full, blessed life”.

Trump, a NY real estate billionaire, “is selling the American people short”, said Obama, calling on the nation “to reject cynicism, reject fears”. But those people have a coherent case, which revolves not around an issue set, but around the fear that Trump is simply temperamentally unsuited to be president. A Pew Research Centre poll found Americans are more politically engaged in a presidential election than since 1992, with 85 per cent of those surveyed saying they are watching news about the candidates quite closely.

Clinton portrayed Trump as a threat to the country, saying “a man you can bait with a tweet is not a man we can trust with nuclear weapons”.

This is not the sort of argument that Sanders supporters seem to be making. The ghost of Alger Hiss is alive and well in this town for I have not seen the Left this paranoid since that time when Nixon was ridiculed by them for chasing down communist penetration of the USA government. Pay-as-you-earn student loan programs are inadequate. Bill Clinton made Hillary Clinton sound likable, which is no small thing in politics. However, painting Clinton as a fuddy-duddy does not strike me as a smart move.

They shake their heads and say they don’t understand how any sane person can vote for Trump. He warned repeatedly Wednesday that the billionaire businessman is unprepared for the challenges that would await him in the Oval Office.

Chelsea Clinton, who spent eight years of her childhood in the White House when Bill Clinton was president, will introduce her mother on Thursday evening. “And if you are looking for that party of Lincoln, we’ve got a home for you right here in the Democratic Party”. Yes, and Sanders obviously has.

He also urged them to vote. “He wants to divide us – from the rest of the world, and from each other”.

The speech was Mrs Clinton’s turn in the spotlight after three days of electrifying appearances by President Barack Obama, Vice President Joe Biden and First Lady Michelle Obama, and Mrs Clinton acknowledged that some people still did not know her well.

Of course, plenty of controversy has arisen from the foundation’s inner workings and its funding, especially the foreign donations it accepted while Hillary Clinton was secretary of state.

“People are sick of getting the runaround on immigration from our politicians”. Most people in this country don’t have very clear political opinions, beyond a vague sense that something ought to be done about a bunch of stuff; that policy programs work much better and are easier to get passed than they actually do or are; and that people like them don’t get almost as much respect from politicians or the media as they deserve.

That effort was hammered home Wednesday by former New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg, a Republican-turned-independent, who implored Americans to “elect a sane, competent person with sane, global experience”.

“I was going to hit one guy in particular, a very little guy, I was going to hit this guy so hard his head would spin”, Trump said, but the governor advised him against it.
