Donald Trump has no clue about middle class, says Joe Biden

On Wednesday, US President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden vouched for Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton at the party’s national convention in Philadelphia. “Hmm, I wonder? Donald Trump”, exclaimed Kaine. Biden said he has known Clinton for more than 30 years, served with her in the U.S. Senate, and even had a weekly breakfast at his home while she served as secretary of state. Biden said. “Give me a break! That’s a bunch of malarkey”, he added. He delivered a tribute to working-class Americans who don’t have the kind of support system he does to deal with hard times. “Hillary gets it”, Biden said.

And then he turned to Trump and painted the picture of a populist fraud.

Obama weaved his praise for the Democratic nominee with continued sharp rebukes for Trump, who, the president said, “cozies up to Putin” and “praises Saddam Hussein”. Biden asked. “He’s trying to tell us he cares about the middle class?”

“Just listen to me for a second.I’m not joking. We should really think about this”.

“We get frustrated with political gridlock and worry about racial divisions; we are shocked and saddened by the madness of Orlando or Nice”, Obama said. And the crowd was with him.

Top Democrats include Vice-Presidential Nominee Senator Tim Kaine and Former New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg also slammed Trump with Bloomberg telling the DNC crowd, “Trump says he wants to run the nation like he’s run his business”.

This isn’t a particularly novel attack on Trump – that he’s a rich guy who likes to fire people.

And all eyes will be on her again tomorrow night as she formally accepts the nomination and closes out the four day event. But Biden made it work. It means you’re not sophisticated.

“Most of all”, the president added, “I see Americans of every party, every background, every faith who believe that we are stronger together – black, white, Latino, Asian, Native American; young and old; gay, straight, men, women, folks with disabilities, all pledging allegiance, under the same proud flag, to this big, bold country that we love”. But I know what she is passionate about.

“The threats are too great, the times are too uncertain, to elect Donald Trump as president of the United States”, he said. It’s because there’s always been a growing middle class.

Biden was uniquely situated to make this case.

Clinton took the stage and embraced Obama after his speech. “Actually he has no clue, period”.

Biden accused Trump of embracing the “tactics of our enemies”, including “torture, religious intolerance”.

These were all harsh attacks – the kind of red meat that conventions are made for. He would have been very good at it – especially in the Year of Trump.
