Clinton, the former secretary of state, won seven states – Georgia, Virginia, Alabama, Tennessee, Arkansas, Massachusetts and Texas – out of the 11 in contention, and also won a territory, American Samoa.
Exit polls indicated that Virginia and Vermont were too close to call for Republicans as balloting ended in the two states, networks said.
Here’s the tally so far – the Associated Press projects the Democrat will win Georgia, Virginia, Alabama, Tennessee, Arkansas and Texas. Sen.
Ted Cruz, a firebrand conservative senator, won his home state of Texas and Oklahoma as he sought to emerge as Trump’s main rival.
In addition to his home state of Vermont, Sanders had been aiming for wins in four other states on Tuesday – neighboring Massachusetts, Oklahoma, Minnesota and Colorado. “He is a lightweight, like I have said many times”. “He’s a lightweight as I’ve said before”.
Rubio, who is favourite of the Republican establishment, was projected the victor in Minnesota in his first victory.
Striking a noticeable contrast with Trump, her possible general election rival, she smiled as she said, “I believe what we need in America today is more love and kindness”.
In his victory speech, Cruz called all the other candidates to drop out of the race claiming that he is the only one who can defeat Trump in the Republican presidential primaries.
Not to mention, Clinton has a vast majority of superdelegates voting for her thus far, giving her an even bigger boost.
“What we can’t let happen is the scapegoating, the blaming, the finger pointing that is going on the Republican side”, Clinton told voters Monday in MA.
While she is somewhat disappointed with the results – Clinton took six of the states in play – elsewhere staunch Republican Terry Caldie is disgusted with what has happened to his party. Sanders thanked cheering supporters in his hometown of Burlington, Vermont, and assailed the Republican front-runner.
Sanders stressed that Democratic primaries are proportional, and award delegates according to the vote count. “We’re all in this together, whether we like it or not”, she said, to a round of applause.
Trump promised to take it to Rubio in his home state.
Both Senators Cruz and Rubio have ramped up their anti-Trump rhetoric over the past week, in a bid to halt his commanding lead in the race.
