Donald Trump knows what kids want: Helicopter rides

One dropped in by helicopter.

The former Arkansas governor says, “Pork chop on a stick”.

Then, it was time time for two parents to willingly send their children hurtling through the sky in a small, metal box with Donald Trump.

DES MOINES, IA (08/17/2015)(readMedia)- Terri Treft of Sioux City won first place in the Our Iowa Church Cookbook Favorites competition, judged Saturday at the 2015 Iowa State Fair.

And perhaps that’s the key to surviving the Iowa State Fair with some dignity. It also attracts presidential candidates hoping to prove their abilities as retail politicians by talking to voters while partaking in corn dogs and deep-fried nachos. “And when people come in, they have to come in legally”.

You could see a cow made of butter or a 711-pound Giant Atlantic Pumpkin. Various foods are served on sticks.

But Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton are avoiding it. Do we know why? An Iowa State Patrol officer asked onlookers to step back. Conversations with dozens of everyday Iowans and grassroots political operatives on both sides revealed a strong inclination toward the out-of-the-box, which is already evident in the polls: Soft-spoken Ben Carson surging 6-points since the debate; Carly Fiorina getting a good look; Trump speaking his mind to loud applause; Bernie Sanders drawing the largest crowds.

Northey says there are plenty of examples of animal husbandry and animal welfare seen at the state fair, which serves as another form of agricultural education for consumers.

About an hour later, Trump traced a similar path.

Trump arrived in a private helicopter about a mile away from the fair and talked with reporters before taking children for a ride in his helicopter. They stood on their tip-toes to snap pictures of the man they recognized from television.

“Get over here!” Trump called to a middle-aged woman, motioning her over for a photo as he walked through the crowd while security cleared a path.

Carson told the crowd too many people are “acting like third graders” and allowing others to “think for them”. And, Trump said, the only reason the US supported Saudi Arabia was because it needed its oil. Still, the chaos and spectacle Clinton and Trump each created during their visits Saturday crystallized the dynamics of the race.

Trump said he would be releasing policy papers soon, starting with an immigration plan tomorrow on NBC’s “Meet the Press“. Rick Santorum, who narrowly won the Iowa caucuses in 2012, donned a red embroidered apron to flip pork burgers over sizzling grills.

“But don’t let the circus distract you“, Clinton said at a Democratic fundraising dinner in Clear Lake, Iowa. “It can’t be justified”, Trump said, pointing most notably to a “skin in the game” reference Bush made in a foreign policy statement. South Carolina is a big military state with voters who also have family ties to the troops, like the vice president, whose late son was an Iraq veteran and who over the weekend choked back tears eulogizing other dead soldiers. “I think he’d be an excellent candidate”, Darby said.
